Public Speaking

Tina is available and eager to speak to adults of all ages and young people on a wide variety of topics, including:

- her personal faith journey as a follower of Jesus Christ
- home education
- childhood sexual abuse
- effective parenting
- language arts instruction
- early childhood education

She happily engages in informal discussions on these and other topics on a regular basis; mentors many through her online support group, The Christian Homeschool Oasis (on Facebook and off); offers one-on-one consultations; and is pleased that she's had an increasing number of opportunities to share in more formal settings. Beginning with her experience as a government school teacher - during which she effectively spoke to groups of teenagers for six or more hours a day, 180 days a year - her relevant experience includes the following:

August 1992 - June 1997
When Tina was interviewing for an initial teaching job, she purposely requested a position working with middle school-aged children (ages 11 to 14) because she had realized during her student teaching experience that she had a heart for kids making the transition from childhood to young adulthood. Thus, for five years, she taught immigrant children (primarily from southeast Asian and Hispanic backgrounds) in grades six through eight at an urban middle school. As a teacher of English as a Second Language (ESL), she focused on helping her students improve their English-language skills, especially in terms of literacy and composition. During her entire tenure at the school, she also served as the ESL Department Chair, a job which entailed managing the needs of ESL students and staff members, as well as serving as the liaison between the ESL Department and other teachers and administrators.

August 1997 - May 2001
Realizing she was ready for a new challenge, Tina transferred to a local high school and spent four years teaching English to immigrant teens (ages 14 to 19). As the main "transitional" teacher between ESL and mainstream English classes, her job was to ensure that her students were capable of succeeding in "regular" classes. By implementing a unique workshop format into the courses she taught, she was able to motivate her students to remain actively engaged in the processes of improving their literacy and composition skills to the point of fluency.

May 2001 - May 2020
Tina's daughters were born in 2001 and 2002, respectively, and she was their primary care provider for their entire childhoods. In addition, from February 2003, through June 2014, she owned and operated a small in-home child care business. Thus, she can speak to early childhood development and education and how to effectively manage such a business while concurrently parenting and home-educating one's own children through to high school graduation.

Tina presented the keynote address and two seminars at a one-day early childhood conference in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Her keynote topic was The Calling of a Teacher.
